KSG celebrates 100 years of Service. A legacy of transformation.
The Kenya School of Government (KSG) celebrates a centenary of dedicated service in shaping public administration, strengthening governance systems, and building leadership capacity in Kenya. For one hundred years, the School has remained at the heart of public sector development — empowering generations of public servants with the knowledge, skills, and values required to drive national progress.
Historical Evolution
KSG traces its roots to the early 20th century, when structured public service training institutions were established to professionalize administration. Over the decades, the institution evolved in mandate, scope, and identity — transitioning from a government training college to a fully-fledged national school of government. Legislative reforms later consolidated its status under an Act of Parliament, formalizing its role as Kenya’s premier institution for capacity development, research, consultancy, and policy advisory in the public sector.
The School expanded its footprint across the country through multiple campuses, enabling decentralized access to training and executive education. Its transformation has mirrored Kenya’s own governance journey — adapting to constitutional reforms, devolution, digital transformation, and emerging public administration challenges.
Mandate and Impact
Today, KSG stands as a regional centre of excellence in public sector capacity development. Its mandate spans executive education, professional development, knowledge generation, innovation, and strategic advisory services. Through flagship programmes, digital skilling initiatives, and partnerships with national and international institutions, KSG continues to contribute meaningfully to institutional effectiveness and national transformation.
Over time, KSG’s influence has expanded beyond Kenya’s borders, positioning the School as a regional hub for capacity development across Africa and an emerging global partner in governance training, knowledge exchange, and institutional strengthening.
Beyond the 100 Years
The centenary is not only a celebration of legacy, but a reaffirmation of purpose. KSG@100 reflects a century of leadership, learning, and service — and a renewed commitment to shaping the next generation of public sector leaders. As Kenya navigates an increasingly complex governance landscape, the School remains poised to strengthen institutional capability, deepen innovation, and position itself as a global reference point in public service capacity development.
