On 6^th June, 2026 the Kenya School of Government began celebrations marking its centenary, that were less about looking back and more about defining what comes next – a declaration of purpose for the century ahead.

Throughout the KSG@100 celebrations, history met hope in equal measure.

Cabinet Secretary Hon. Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku officially unveiled the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga Regional Leadership and Governance Academy and Chandaria Innovation Centre, located at the Kenya School of Government, Nairobi.

At the unveiling were Principal Secretaries Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya and Dr. Raymond Omollo, alongside KSG Council Chair, Justice (Rtd). Charles Nyachae and members of Council, Director General Prof. Nura Mohamed, and industrialist Dr. Manu Chandaria, whose Foundation partnered with KSG to bring the Academy to life. Representing the Odinga family was Ms. Rosemary Odinga, daughter of Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga.

The Graduation of 432 officers who successfully completed the Diploma in Public Administration, affirmation of the Leadership Programme for National Transformation cohorts, induction of Deputy County Commissioners, and the recognition of 192 members of staff through Recognition of Prior Learning showed that KSG’s greatest legacy is also found in the leaders it continues to nurture for the future of the world.

CS for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes, Hon. Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku, stressed that investing in institutions that build capable public servants, reaffirming Government’s commitment to strengthening leadership and public sector capacity are a foundation for national growth.

Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, on the other hand challenged those gathered to view the milestone not as an exercise in nostalgia, but as a call to renewed purpose.

Reflecting on the School’s evolution, PS. Imbunya likened KSG to a great tree whose roots honor its pioneers, whose branches shelter today’s leaders, and whose new growth carries tomorrow’s promise.

Justice (Rtd.) Charles Nyachae, Chairperson of the Kenya School of Government Council, described KSG as one of Kenya’s most strategic national institutions. History consistently demonstrates that nations rise or fall on the strength of their institutions.

Looking to the future, KSG Director General, Prof. Nura Mohamed challenged the institution to remain ahead of the forces reshaping governance across the world. Emerging technologies, Artificial Intelligence, climate change, shifting citizen expectations and increasingly complex policy environments, he noted, require governments that can anticipate change rather than react to it. “We are at war with mediocrity,” he declared, reiterating the School’s commitment to nurturing competence, excellence and innovation across the public service.

As Kenya pursues its vision of becoming a globally competitive, high-productivity economy—the Road to Singapore—KSG will continue to shape the thinking, judgement and practice that make national ambition possible.
