Skills Needed up the Career Ladder
BY MARIAN MORAA
The Kenya School of Government (KSG) is increasingly focusing training programs on equipping government officers with requisite skills to undertake processes and adopt behaviour inherent in achieving excellent performance outcomes, through optimal management and leadership.
Mr. Andrew Rori, Deputy Director in charge of Learning and Development, says participants undertaking programs at KSG are actively engaged and supported at a personal level through one-on-one executive level coaching, with a focus on developing specific competencies, based on individuals development needs. That explains why the School is increasingly advocating for manageable numbers in each program of study.
“The assessed component of the programs offered include team-based and individual assignments, focusing on the strategic priorities, opportunities and challenges, all with an aim to improve public service delivery,” he stated.
Mr. Rori said this as he closed a Strategic Leadership Development Program (SLDP) at Lower Kabete. “Both individual and team effort is important in the transformation of this country,” Mr. Rori pointed out.
The six weeks programme enables public servants to build their leadership skills needed at the senior management level. The course contributes to setting the agenda and mobilizing the public service toward key achievement of government set goals. The leadership program was developed to provide a platform for building
the capacity of senior officers to lead and manage the strategic direction and operations of Ministries, Departments and Government Agencies towards achieving overall objectives and strategic goals of those institutions.
Through the Program, the School provides relevant and rigorous high level experiential learning that aides participants to understand the context and historical perspective of development in various sectors, using the latest best practice and thought leadership.
