A Call for Collective Marketing of the Institution

The Kenya School of Government, through the Directorate of Academic Affairs, is set to intensify capacity building in the County Governments and State Corporations with the aim of revolutionizing public service delivery.
The School, which is mandated to promote continuous learning for public service excellence through capacity building, is central in ensuring citizens receive excellent services. The School, therefore, provides support for the transformation of the Public Service through development of professional expertise and public service values; problem-solving research that informs public policy; and consultancy services for organizational re-engineering to achieve sophistication, adaptability and responsiveness for competitive advantage.
Focusing on the state corporations, the School has designed specific programs.which are aimed at driving the expected transformation in the leadership and management of Public Enterprises. The flagship programs are the Accounting Officers Program, Postgraduate Diploma and Certificate in Management of Public Enterprises. The Accounting Officers Program (AOP) targets all accounting officers and those with Authority to Incur Expenditure (AIE).
The AOP was launched jointly between the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Cabinet Secretary for Public Service at a forum of Accounting Officers and Chairs of Board of state corporations at Lower Kabete Campus on May 26, 2017.
The Program is especially suitable for Accounting Officers in Ministries and state corporations, County Governments, independent commissions and offices, legislative bodies, and the private sector.
This Program was developed after the realization that Accounting Officers are often appointed on the strength of skills and competences in their respective technical professions obtained principally during which are aimed at driving the expected transformation in the leadership and management of Public Enterprises. The flagship programs are the Accounting Officers Program, Postgraduate Diploma and Certificate in Management of Public Enterprises. The Accounting Officers Program (AOP) targets all accounting officers and those with Authority to Incur Expenditure (AIE).

This Program was developed after the realization that Accounting Officers are often appointed on the strength of skills and competences in their respective technical professions obtained principally during The Postgraduate Diploma and Certificate in Management of Public Enterprises are set to be rolled out this Financial Year. The Certificate program is designed to suit the needs of both serving senior managers in public enterprises, private and civil society institutions, policy researchers, postgraduate students, as well as individuals who desire to take up careers in the public economic sector. A recognized Bachelor's degree will be a prerequisite for admission to the program.
Designed to last six weeks, the program aims at transforming positively the leadership and management of public enterprises through skills and competency development to enhance their contributions to national development.
The curriculum is designed to generate creativity, critical thinking and professionalism required to lead KenyaÂs public economic sector. The packaging of the content and its delivery by renowned scholars and experts aims at empowering program participants to make appropriate policies and operational decisions. Delivery is designed to be lucid, informative, comprehensive, and as much as possible accompanied with academic elegance.
On the other hand, the Diploma program is designed to suit the needs of both senior and middle level managers in public enterprises as well as individuals who desire to take up management careers in the public enterprise sector. Designed to last eight and a half months, the program aims to transform positively the leadership and management of public enterprises through skills and competency development to improve the performance of public enterprises which are spread in a wide range of sectors and whose boards and management staff have diverse academic, training and experience backgrounds, and to enhance their contribution to national development.
The subject matter of the program draws from many disciplines including management sciences, engineering, public administration, law, economics, psychology and sociology, among others. The design of modules and units and their sequencing takes into account the fact that the subject draws from many academic disciplines, practice traditions, and backgrounds.
To ensure that County Governments have a systematic approach in the induction of the officers newly appointed in the office, the School has developed six County specific programs.
Meanwhile, the School has so far inducted officers from various counties including Bomet, Tharaka Nithi, Mombasa, Garissa, Wajir, Vihiga, Trans Nzoia, Bungoma and Meru.
We are confident that the knowledge acquired is going to have positive impact on utilization of resources and the service delivery at the Counties.
The critical question each staff needs to ask themselves is ÂWhat is my role in ensuring that the set objectives are attained? We are all marketers in the School. When you do your work well and delight our participants you become a super marketer.
